History and rebirth – From 1945 to 2026
THALAZUR Carnac was founded in 1945 as the founding center of French thalassotherapy. This pioneering post-war foundation represented the reconstruction of Brittany and marked the creation of the first modern thalassotherapy center on the Atlantic coast. During its heyday, from 1950 to 1980, the center welcomed patients suffering from rheumatism and osteoarthritis, supported by comprehensive medical teams and protocols reimbursed by Social Security.
The shift towards wellness began in 1980 with a gradual transition towards wellness for the general public, relaxation and cosmetic treatments. The center joined the Thalazur chain in 1999, becoming part of a network of nine establishments spread across the Atlantic coast of France.
The 2023-2026 transformation represents a major turning point. After 18 months of complete renovation financed by a $50 million investment, the center is gradually reopening:the 4-star Hôtel Escale opened its doors in June 2025 with 200 rooms and suites, while the Thalasso and spa reopened on November 1, 2025, confirming the center's status as the largest Thalazur in France.

THALAZUR Carnac offers a comprehensive hydrotherapy facility combining ancient maritime traditions with modern technology. Hydrotherapy baths allow guests to immerse themselves in heated seawater, while marine jet showers provide targeted therapeutic treatment. Sea rain massages deliver a fine spray at 37°C for muscle relaxation. Seaweed wraps complete the experience with specialized floating beds. The 60 m² treatment pool welcomes patients undergoing treatments, while chromotherapy uses colors to enhance the hydromassage baths.
The exclusive treatment rooms offer personalized sessions lasting 15 to 50 minutes. They use prestigious brands Thalgo and Payot, French leaders in marine skincare. The three-salt marine scrubs last 15 minutes, while the marine rain and Swedish body massages soothe tension. Facial treatments combine anti-aging, radiance, and hydration. The complete 60- to 90-minute spa rituals offer total immersion. The duo treatment rooms allow couples to enjoy simultaneous massages.
The complete spa area includes a private Japanese sauna with dry heat and aromatherapy, a steam room offering hot and humid steam at 50°C, whirlpool baths with hot water hydromassage, and a tea room offering relaxing herbal teas.
Complementary expert care includes physical therapy with medical supervision and rehabilitation, osteopathy for spinal and joint manipulation, cryotherapy in a cold chamber at -120°C, sophrology and mindfulness meditation, and Chinese medicine acupuncture.
The 2,500 m² marine spa – Integrated relaxation area
The heated seawater pool is a 25-meter Olympic-size pool maintained at a constant temperature of 32°C. The heated seawater is available year-round for hotel guests and day visitors. The seasonal outdoor pool is open from April to September with heated seawater in the open air, offering a panoramic view of the ocean and an ideal atmosphere for relaxation.
The 290 m² marine circuit is a true therapeutic circuit. It includes floating aquabeds for water massage, a geyser with a powerful vertical jet of hot water, underwater side jets, a counter-current corridor for stationary swimming, a swan neck with an aromatic waterfall jet, hydromassage seats with water bubbles, pedijets for foot and leg massage, and a cobra water blade with a powerful shiatsu-style jet.
The open-air jacuzzi offers a whirlpool bath with heated water and bubbles, available from April to September. It can accommodate 6 to 8 people in a family configuration.
