Skedanoz 2027: the sparkling nights of the Carnac megaliths

Skedanoz is Carnac’s unmissable summer event. As night falls, the Ménec alignments come to life beneath a spectacular shower of light: a magnificent 35-minute sound and light show in which 3,000 menhirs are illuminated against the starry Breton sky. With the spellbinding voice of Gilles Servat (a living legend of Breton music), the pipers and drummers of Bagad Arvorizion Karnag and the colourful projections of over 70 spotlights, immerse yourself in 6,000 years of Breton history.

Skedanoz takes young and old alike on a magical journey back to the time of the megalith builders – a unique experience that makes Carnac’s thousand-year-old heritage, inscribed by UNESCO in July 2025, sparkle.

🎭 The Skedanoz show

‘Skedanoz’ means ‘sparkling nights’ in Breton. The name says it all: on a few summer evenings, the menhirs of Ménec emerge from the shadows.

  • The story: ‘The Fabulous Destiny of a Child from Carnac’, inspired by the life of the archaeologist Zacharie Le Rouzic.

  • Light: a play of colours and projections across eleven rows of menhirs, stretching for around 400 metres.

  • The music: an original soundtrack and the musicians of Bagad Arvorizion Karnag.

  • Language: The show is in French.

  • Directed by: Christian Salès, in collaboration with CS Prod, on behalf of the Town of Carnac.

Skedanoz was founded in 2014 in Erdeven, conceived by four students from the Nantes School of Architecture. It moved to Ménec in 2015 and celebrated its 11th edition in 2026.

🏛️ Zacharie Le Rouzic, Carnac’s own son

Zacharie Le Rouzic was born on 24 December 1864 in Carnac, into a family of nine children; his father was a rag-and-bone man. He became the caretaker of the museum founded by James Miln, and later its curator in 1910. He devoted his life to excavating and protecting the megaliths, and bequeathed his collection to the museum in 1926. He died in Carnac on 15 December 1939.

You can explore his legacy at the Carnac Museum of Prehistory.
