Carnac Tide Times 2027: Spring Tides and Shore Fishing

In Carnac, the sea goes out twice a day and uncovers a vast foreshore of sand and rocks. In 2027, the biggest tide of the year falls on Thursday 2 September, with a coefficient of 112. The beaches of Beaumer and Men-Dû are 500 m from Camping Les Druides: here are the dates to note, the spring tide times for the season and the rules for safe shore fishing.

⚠️ The times in this article are SHOM forecasts for the port of La Trinité-sur-Mer, the closest to Carnac, in local time. Wind and atmospheric pressure can shift them: always check the day's tide before you set off. The campsite provides this information; it does not organise shore fishing outings or water sports.

🌊 Understanding the tides in Carnac

On the Atlantic coast there are two high waters and two low waters a day, about six hours apart. The difference between the two varies with the position of the Moon and the Sun.

  • A tidal range of more than 5.5 m at the biggest tides: on 2 September 2027, at La Trinité-sur-Mer, the sea will fall to 0.34 m at 12:42 and then rise to 5.88 m at 18:47.

  • Around 2 m at neap tides: with a small coefficient the sea barely moves and most of the foreshore stays covered.

📏 The tide coefficient

The coefficient, calculated by the SHOM for the port of Brest, measures the size of the tide along the whole Atlantic coast. It ranges from 20 to 120.

  • Around 45: an average neap tide, the sea goes out very little.

  • Around 95: an average spring tide, a large part of the foreshore is uncovered.

  • Above 100: commonly called a big spring tide. The sea drops very low, then comes back quickly.

  • Friday 29 and Saturday 30 October: coefficient 97.

No coefficient exceeds 100 in November or December 2027.

🎣 Shore fishing: choosing the right moment

The best outing combines a high coefficient with a low water in the middle of the day, such as 4 August or 2 September 2027. Go down onto the foreshore before low water. As the SNSM lifeboat service reminds us, the signal to head back is the time of low water: the way back always takes longer than the way out.

🛟 Your safety on the foreshore

  • ⏰ Check the time of low water and the coefficient before you set off.

  • 👥 Do not go alone, and tell someone close to you where you are going.

  • 🌊 Watch the rising water and beware of fog.

  • 📱 Take a charged phone. Emergency at sea: 196. From the beach: 112.

  • 🧊 Avoid fishing after heavy rain, keep your shellfish cool and eat them within 24 hours.

🚣 Swimming, sailing and walks according to the tide

At low tide the sea moves away and the beaches grow bigger. With high coefficients it comes back quickly: settle above the high-water mark and keep an eye on the children. In July and August, the Grande Plage in Carnac is supervised.

For sailing and kayaking, launch times often follow the tide: ask the Yacht Club de Carnac or the harbour at La Trinité-sur-Mer. On foot, the customs officers' path (GR34) runs along the coast and offers fine views over the foreshore. All the beaches in the area are presented in our guide to the beaches of Carnac and La Trinité-sur-Mer.
